Large Diameter Cartridge Explosives

Introduction
IDL manufactures Large Diameter Catridge Explosives for use
in opencast mining, civil constructions and underground large
hole strippings. There are four types of large diameter explosives
- Aquadyne, Toe blast, Energel, and Supergel. These explosives
have excellent bore-hole coupling, thus providing maximum
energy transfer as they achieve high loading density in the
bore-hole. They also offer high degree of safety from mechanical
impact and friction. Absence of nitroglycerine eliminates
headaches to operating personnel and produces less noxious
fumes upon detonation.

Aquadyne is a cap sensitive aluminised gelled slurry
explosive for use in large diameter holes. It also effectively
boosters cap-insensitive explosives. Its gel fluidity ensures
fast sinking in water filled holes. Aquadyne can be initiated
either by a detonator or detonating cord.

Toeblast is a Slurry Explosive for blasting away toe.
It has a higher than normal aluminium content, which makes
it more powerful than other slurry explosives. It also effectively
boosts cap-insensitive explosives. Toe blast can be initiated
either by a detonator or detonating cord.

Energel is a gelled slurry explosive. Its excellent
slumping characteristics ensures good loading density and
borehole coupling. For initiation, Energel has to be primed
either by Aquadyne/Toeblast of the same cartridge diameter
or a pentolite booster. A column charge of Energy forms an
excellent combination with Supergel as bottom charge, particularly
for hard rock formations.

Supergel has the typical characteristics of a slurry
explosive and a higher aluminium content. It eliminates the
problem of toe and reduces drilling costs by virtue of increased
burden and spacing. Also its compatability with water and
its cross linked consistency prevents liquid flow, avoids
hang-ups and ensures fast sinking in water filled holes. For
initiation Supergel has to be primed either by Aquadyne/Toeblast
of the same cartridge diameter or a pentolite booster. A bottom
charge of Supergel forms an excellent combination with Energel
as a column charge, particularly for hard rock formation.

Applications
Aquadyne is largely used in opencast mining and quarrying.
It acts as a perfectly matched primer when Supergel or Energel
is used as a bottom charge for removal of toe in hard rock
formations. Due to its sticking properties and ease of cutting,
it is commonly used for plaster shooting.
Toeblast is generally used in opencast mining and quarrying.
It acts as a perfectly matched primer when Supergel or Energel
is used as a bottom charge, for removal of toe in hard rock
formations. In combination with Energel it makes an excellent
column charge, ideal for hard rock formations.
Energel can be used in watery boreholes, in overburden and
coal blasting, opencast mining, construction work and quarrying.
Energel can also be safely used in coal benches on fire after
taking all recommended precautions.
Supergel finds applications under rough rock formations in
overburden and coal blasting, opencast mining, construction
work and quarrying.
