Products for Seismic Prospecting
Explosives Division of GULF OIL Corporation Ltd. manufactures
seismic detonator and slurry explosive in couplable
plastic tube for seismic prospecting work.
Seismic Electric Detonators are specially designed to meet
the stringent requirements of seismic prospecting work. The
unique feature of these detonators is that they have extremely
low reaction times and they fire within 1 millisecond after
passage of requisite electrical energy. The lead wires have extra
thick PVC insulation, which provides good abrasion resistance
and desired electrical properties for use in watery drillholes.

Superdyne CPT is a high strength cap-sensitive slurry
explosive in couplable plastic tubes that can be used in
blasting applications such as seismic prospecting and
underwater blasting works. Superdyne CPT gives excellent
blast results under tough field conditions. It has excellent
water resistance and hence most suitable for use in watery
borehole conditions.
Superdyne CPT has high strength and high velocity of
detonation, which are very essential for generating the
desired seismic pulse in seismic prospecting work and good
fragmentation in hard rocks when especially used in underwater
blasting applications. The superior gel structure
ensures that the strength and sensitivity are retained when
stored for long periods.
Special features of Superdyne CPT
- Does NOT contain any self-explosive ingredients and
hence safe.
- Does NOT contain any headache causing ingredients.
- Relatively insensitive to accidental initiation due to
impact, friction and fire. Hence very safe during handling,
usage, transportation and storage.
- High strength and high velocity of detonation (VOD)
ensures good seismic signals.
- Excellent water resistance – highly suitable for use in
watery boreholes.
- Excellent fume characteristics – upon detonation generates
very low levels of toxic after-blast fumes.
- Superior gel structure eliminates possibility of leakage
during the recommended shelf life.

Packaging
Seismic Electric Detonators are supplied in folded wire
format. Detonators are bundled and wrapped in kraft paper
to form a packet. Requisite number of packets are placed in
a corrugated fiber board case. Markings on the case
indicate manufacturer’s name, product name, lead wire
length, case number, date of manufacture, net weight and
gross weight. Quantities packed are as under:

Precautions
- Do NOT subject detonators to impact, friction and fire.
- NEVER force a detonator into explosive cartridge. Always
use pricker made of non-sparking material to pierce the
wrapper while priming.
- NEVER hold the detonator shell while unfurling the wire
for use. Always hold the leadwire about 5 cms away from
crimp portion to avoid any pressure coming on the
fusehead assembly.
- Do NOT handle electric detonators while wearing woolen
or synthetic clothes or in the vicinity of Cell Phones,
Walkie-Talkies.
- Always keep the ends of leadwire or blasting cable shorted
and unhook just prior to connections. Disconnect the blasting
cable from the exploder if circuit needs to be checked.
- Never carry out explosives charging during an approaching
storm and lightning activity in the blast area. Vacate the blast
area and resume operations only after the storm has passed.
- Do NOT attempt to fight explosive fires.
