About Us
The Speciality Chemicals Division was originally part of the Research and Development programme of the Company. It originally managed the development of chemical molecules for drugs, aroma and other strategic raw materials sold to Indian chemical industries. The Division is now a separate full-fledged manufacturing and marketing division, producing APIs and undertaking R&D.
Commercial production from this Division commenced on 1 June 2006 at its manufacturing unit on the outskirts of Hyderabad which produces APIs and intermediates for cardiac, anti-depressants, anti-histamines, analgesic and anti-amoebic drugs.
The Division also undertakes contract research in its R&D facility.

Milestones
1970: Pharma operations commenced in Bangalore, India with the acquisition of MIT Laboratories Ltd.
1979: Pharma operations expanded through joint venture with Astra Pharmaceuticals AB, Sweden, at Bangalore, India.
1980: Manufacture of Veterinary medicines at Hyderabad.
1981: R&D facilities strengthened through collaboration with Nitro-Nobel AB, Sweden to form IDL Nitro-Nobel Basic Research Institute (INBRI)
1986: Manufacture of Isosorbide Dinitrate/ Isosorbide Mononitrate at Hyderabad for cardiac treatment. R & D shifted from Bangalore to Hyderabad.
2001: Pilot plant scale-up studies commenced at the Hyderabad campus
2004: Larger, improved R&D facilities at Hyderabad, India. CGMP compliant plant commissioned at Hyderabad, India with a reactor capacity of 185 kilolitres in 5 production blocks
2006: IDL Pharma – Formulations business commenced.
Manufacturing Facilities
The manufacturing facility of Speciality Chemicals division is located at Pashamylaram, an industrial estate approved by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. This facility is 35 kms from the city centre and spread over 10 acres of land.
The facility is a fully cGMP compliant facility with quality analysis, quality control, administrative and utility blocks and another 5 production blocks with 180 kilolitres reactor capacity, of which 3 have clean room facilities and the remaining 2 are supporting facilities.
The plant has its own adequate utility supplies and back up power. The plant has also a primary effluent treatment plant and multiple effect evaporator. The division is a member of the common effluent treatment facility approved by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board and the effluent after primary treatment is sent to the common treatment facility for further treatment and disposal.
The Company’s manufacturing facility has been audited by a number of multinational companies operating in India. These pharmaceutical majors have approved the facility at Pashamylaram/Hyderabad for the supply of APIs to their Indian operations and non-regulated markets outside India. The facility has also been audited by a number of agents for placing materials in international markets. These export sales are expected to generate new opportunities for the Company to position its products in international markets.
